Two very different kinds of beautiful this week — one soft and painterly, one bright and sun-kissed. Here’s what’s blooming in both gardens.

 

RM Mirage Dahlia

Some blooms photograph well. RM Mirage is the kind you have to see in person to really understand. It’s a soft, ethereal formal decorative with a layered, watercolor-like quality — blush cream tones brushed with mauve-pink at the petal edges, centered by a rich plum-purple heart. It’s exactly the kind of painterly coloring River Merle is known for, and one of the most striking varieties we’ve grown all year.

KA’s® Sicilian Summer Dahlia

Over in KA’s® Heaven, KA’s® Sicilian Summer brings a completely different energy — warm, cheerful, and sun-kissed, from renowned hybridizer Kristine Albrecht of KA’s Dahlias. It’s a mini ball variety with tightly formed, perfectly spherical 3-inch blooms in a rich peachy-orange tone with a darker center, held on compact plants. It’s the kind of bloom that just makes you smile walking past it.
